Classical Sonatas for Harp

by Csilla Gulyás (harp)

The pedal harp was presented in 1749 in a concert spirituel in Paris with an unexpected, sensational success. Contrary to the earlier rattling-clattering harps with “manual switch” at this one the semitones could be changed with foot almost inaudibly. Experiments will be carried out for decades but this harp of single-action pedals completely changed the fate of the instrument. The present recording is a selection from the pieces of the first great classical era of the harp, the second half of the 18th century.
