Galuppi: Operas and Sacral Works

by Mónika González (soprano); Capella Savaria and the Savaria Baroque Orchestra (on period instruments); Fabio Pirona (conductor)

Baldassare Galuppi’s (1706–1785) whole œuvre stands in the sign of instrumental and sacred music: in spite of his varied style, the genres opera seria and opera buffa as well as his vast, rich sacred lifework standing closer to the former are well separated. Galuppi’s opera output consists essentially of a series of opera seria compositions produced in rapid succession. They were followed by buffopieces from the middle of the century onward setting to music first Goldoni’s, later Metastasio’s and Chiari’s texts.
